Wellbeing Outreach – Community Conscious

Community Conscious is a not-for-profit project within Coexist CIC, based in the Wellbeing Rooms at Hamilton House in Bristol. Our professional team of therapists offer a range of complementary treatments, including massage and yoga, to vulnerable people in Bristol, many of whom face issues of isolation, unemployment and family breakdown. Some of the benefits received by these groups include improved physical and emotional wellbeing, a greater sense of self worth and ability to cope with stress, thus equipping individuals with the tools to integrate more fully within themselves and the broader community. Community Conscious works in-line with Bristol City Council 20:20 Partnership goals to address health inequality across the city.

Working closely with a range of partner organisations including mental health charity Second Step and the Bristol Health Trainers learning difficulty team, Community Conscious brings a blend of 1:1 treatments and group sessions to service users, unpaid carers and support staff.

By the end of the year Community Conscious will launch on-site clinics on the premises of local businesses in Bristol. Our aim will be to enable employers to invest in the well being of their staff, increase their productivity and contribute towards discounted treatments for vulnerable adult groups.

To book a treatment or receive more information about the services we run, please contact: communityconscious@coexistuk.org or visit the Community Conscious website at: communityconscious.org

Energy Healing

Overview

Energy healing is a holistic approach to facilitating a return journey to health. It involves tracing the cause of any suffering through the physical and emotional symptoms to its roots deep within the psyche.

When faced with difficulties in our lives that are too difficult to accept, we tend to hold this unresolved energy in our aura. This creates blockages in our energy field which then depletes our vitality and can lead to ill health and suffering.

With the help of an energy healer, we can be guided into bringing these blockages to light and releasing them. This enables healing on all levels including physical health, emotional wellbeing, relationships and spiritual realisation.

Reiki

Overview

Reiki is a Japanese word meaning Universal Life Energy, an energy, which is all around us. It is a system of natural healing which evolved in Japan.

A treatment is received lying down and through the clothes. Hands are laid non –intrusively in a sequence of positions covering the whole body. The whole person is treated rather than just specific symptoms.

It is possible to heal at any level of being: physical, mental, emotional or spiritual. The practitioner is a channel through which the energy is drawn by the need or imbalance in the recipient. Neither person has to use any effort of will or concentration during this process. Reiki flows to the areas of need, soothing pain and supporting the body’s natural ability to heal itself. Reiki restores balance in one’s life. Reiki is powerful and gentle.

Yoga

Overview

A life philosophy and system of exercises said to originate in India, and practiced as part of a discipline to control the body and mind and develop self-awareness. Through stretching and breathing exercises yoga cultivates core strength, stamina, balance and flexibility as well as cleansing and de-toxifying the body. As your mind becomes more focused tension and stress can release and equilibrium can be restored.

Individual yoga sessions can be used to support health and well-being. Body awareness, conscious breathing and mindfulness allow a deepening of the connection between the body and the mind. If you are suffering from physical, mental or emotional problems, yoga can be used therapeutically to aid your recovery. Yoga can also be used to maintain and improve health. One-to-one sessions focus on applying yoga to suit the needs of the individual student.

Testimonials

I was diagnosed with anxiety and severs depression in 2005… it took me a long time to get help. My life was very restrictive on account of compulsive habits I hung on to, to cope with anxiety. I hardly ventured beyond the doors of my house, my life a long shadow of better days remembered.

Over the next five years I had counselling and did CBT at home. I found out about complimentary therapies Second Step. I had five weekly sessions of Indian Head Massage and Holistic Massage in Community Conscious’ first pilot. I had never tried such therapies before and counselling was a slow process. Perhaps my body needed counselling too?

I feel more relaxed, less anxious and have clearer thinking after sessions. I have been much better this year due to a number of factors, not least this therapy. I would like more treatments and recommend therapies as an aid for keeping focussed and giving your body a well needed rest. A daily routine of relaxation and exercise, coupled with Shiatsu, Massage etc… will strongly help you along the rocky road of recovery.

Dan

I have suffered with IBS for years and after finding prescribed medication and diet change was not working I looked into alternative therapies. I had 5 sessions of shiatsu [with Lioba] and have found it to have had an enormous effect on my symptoms. It has made me understand the connection between my emotions, largely stress and worry, and the issues with my stomach. Shiatsu with Lioba gave me the tools to learn to relax and to break the connection between negative emotions and my physical well being. It was the first time I had ever had shiatsu and knew very little about it but I would most definitely have treatments again. After the treatments having such a profound effect on my symptoms.
