Hamilton House provides creative space for a wide range of practitioners
The Hamilton House studios are made up of a wide variety of artists and makers including visual fine artists, photographers, illustrators, fashion and costume designers, writers, puppeteers and much more.
The Coexist project seeks to foster a collaborative and participatory experience. By working together in this way we believe it’s possible to create something bigger and more powerful than ourselves.
What it means to be part of the Coexist Community
Having a studio at Hamilton House is not just renting a space but becoming part of a vibrant and creative community. Whether you are an established artist or just looking for a space to expand a hobby, we welcome people from all backgrounds and abilities.
In order to create a thriving and supportive community, we actively seek to take on members who:
- Are community minded, sharing our commitment to community growth and development
- Are prepared to use their studios on a regular basis (we consider regular use of space to be at least once a week)
- Will be active community members, and willing to share responsibilities such as cleaning and helping to develop and maintain the space (this does not need to take up a lot of time, but requires an open attitude and willingness to participate)
- Are willing to contribute fairly and engage with the development of your studio and the project as a whole
We have a range of open and closed studio spaces all with natural light, access to communal areas with kitchen facilities, Wi-Fi included, 24-hour access if required, and post service, as well as a community area for networking, reflection and relaxation.
Artists can also utilise our hire spaces at a discounted rate and join in socials and open studios. Additionally we host a weekly community lunch, a beautiful feast of healthy vegetarian food hand-made by the Community Kitchen project for £2.50. This provides excellent networking opportunities between all areas of the building and good time to slow down and catch up with building users.
Our Exhibition space on the ground floor is open to licensees for free 8 weeks a year or at a discounted rate for the rest of the time. We encourage artists to turn the building inside out and be part of our online Hamilton House directory. Coexist newsletters are sent out fortnightly to both the artist community and the general public, which promotes events and opportunities within Hamilton House.
Cost Artist studios range from £10- £12 per sq/ft per annum; this is inclusive of all services, utilities, Internet and security. Prices range from £55-£500+ pcm. For a 24-hour access card there is a £10 deposit.
